Back Care Awareness Week

Collective Purchasing Looks into Back Care Awareness Week

The aim of the week long event, which is organised by Back Care, the charity for healthier backs, is to raise awareness of the problems back pain can cause, as well as prevention and treatments. Back pain is very common and in many cases difficult to prevent completely. However there are a number of things you can do to reduce the risks of developing disabling back pain.

Good back care is not only focused on preventing back pain from striking in the first place, but also on trying to prevent the negative consequences of back pain.

Here Are Some Random Facts About Back Pain for You:

  • Health and well being at work is very important. If you are sitting at a desk all day, you need to make sure you sit correctly and have the support you need from the chair you sit in. Also, if you are short, make sure you ask for a desk foot stall – they work a treat.
  • Did you know that psychological factors can actually cause back pain? If you are stressed, it can all go to your back if you don’t exercise or stretch enough!
  • In 2012, a study which tracked 2,808 workers from 28 different organisations in Norway for two years found that lack of decision control and lack of leadership quality were the most consistent predictors of who would develop back pain .
  • In 2010, a study which tracked 1,704 workers in Israel for three years found that exhaustion doubled the risk of developing a musculoskeletal disorder, such as back pain.
